adidas recently dropped the next phase of its ongoing sneaker partnership with OAMC, a streetwear brand led by Luke Meier — who also happens to be co-creative director at Jil Sander. Two new silhouettes, the Type-04 and Type-05, continue the collaborative vision for mixing natural materials with a synthetic performance aesthetic, and, quite frankly, they might just be the best of the OAMC x adidas output yet.
The duo first joined forces in early 2019, releasing the super-streamlined Type-01 and silhouette-combining Type-02 sneakers, both of which were an amalgamation of OAMC’s material development and research and adidas’ fruitful archive and technical innovation.
You’ll find more details on the Type-01, Type-02, and new Type-04 and Type-05, silhouettes below, as well as the chance to shop them.
Sandal/sneaker hybrids have been popping up all over the place this summer, and the adidas Novaturbo was one of the best. The OAMC x adidas Type-04 brings a similar vibe, with the highlight silhouette’s transparent paneling perfect for those who don’t want to tread the fully-fledged open-toe path. Taking design cues from adidas’ Terrex range, the futuristic Type-04 comes in three colorways, including earthy and cream shades. The navy one is a personal favorite, though.
The Type-05 is a beauty, too. Opting for a bulkier form than the Type-04, the Type-05 looks like its been outfitted for performance but designed with lifestyle use in mind. The OAMC x adidas Type-05 takes inspiration from the EQT Tyranny, a classic Three Stripes sneaker from 1998.
The first silhouette of the partnership, the Type-01 has a particular YEEZY vibe to it. The silhouette combines a sleek, slip-on-appearing upper with a tough and oversized sole, while a thick rubber strap across the center of the shoe finishes off one ultra-sturdy piece.
Last but not least, the Type-02 takes an adidas Stan Smith-inspired upper and mounts it on a sole dreamed up together between the German sportswear giant and OAMC. A tennis shoe for the future, the Type-02 brings something new and fresh to the lifestyle category while remaining unmistakably adidas.
