The Wrangler has gone electric, as this week Jeep introduced the 2021 Wrangler 4xe. The all-new model is the most powerful Wrangler to date, with its plug-in hybrid turbocharged engine.

Featuring two transmission-mounted electric motors and a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, the Wrangler 4xe delivers a total of 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque, while traveling from 0 to 60 miles per hour in six seconds.

In addition to being the fastest Wrangler ever, the 2021 4xe is still capable of tackling harsh terrains. For this, the vehicle has an articulated suspension system, full-time 4×4 two-speed transfer case, Dana 44 front and rear axles, and waterproof electronics, which means you can venture through up to 30 inches of water.

The manufacturer gives the new Wrangler a 50 MPGe rating and a driving range of 400 miles. You can in turn charge the electric motor at public charging stations or with an in-home charger. However, if the vehicle has no charge, you can still drive it using the gas engine. E-Selec driving modes ultimately give you the option to harness electricity, gas, or a combination of the two.

With the Jeep Wrangler being a bonafide 4×4 favorite, the implementation of an electric motor proves the future of off-roading can in fact be green. As the automobile brand aims to reduce its carbon footprint moving forward, you can get excited for the hybrid 2021 Wrangler 4xe’s release towards the end of 2020. Pricing has yet to be announced.
