Safdie brothers

Josh and Benny Safdie have signed a two-year first-look TV deal with HBO, Variety reports. The contract includes the Safdie brothers’ independent film production studio, Elara Pictures, which they formed in 2014 with Oscar Boyson, Sebastian Bear-McClard, and Ronald Bronstein. Dani Bernfeld will be joining the company to produce both TV and film projects.

With the HBO deal, A24 will executive produce all projects, while simultaneously collaborating with Elara on assignments not included in the HBO agreement. A24 and the Safdies previously worked together on Uncut Gems starring Adam Sandler and Good Times starring Robert Pattinson.

Whatever is produced under the deal will serve as the Safdie brothers’ first TV project. They are known for their aforementioned films Uncut Gems and Good Times, in addition to 2009’s Daddy Longlegs and 2014’s Heaven Knows What. Their most recent movie, Uncut Gems, was received with critical acclaim, grossing more than $50 million on a $19 million budget. You can currently watch the Adam Sandler-starring picture on Netflix.
