The Whitaker Group's ongoing "Free Game" program has seen the group's founder, James Whitner, and its retail outposts, including Social Status and A Ma Maniére, bringing together fashion and footwear industry professionals with community members in a series of enlightening discussions. Though the ongoing self-isolation period has temporarily shuttered the boutiques, the Free Game talks live on thanks to digital platforms like Zoom.
Now, Whitner is inviting the public to stream his forthcoming talk with Nike executives, which is dubbed "Creating Opportunities for the Black Community in Sneakers and Fashion." Phil McCartney, Nike's vice president of global footwear, and Kris Wright, Nike's VP of NSW men's footwear, will all participate in the conversation, which seeks to provide answers for would-be sneaker designers and entrepreneurs aiming to break into the industry. Though it will be public to all, only the first 500 participants to RSVP will be able to ask questions during the livestream.
RSVP for Whitner's online-only chat via the dedicated Eventbrite page and for more updates, follow APB Store, Social Status, A Ma Maniére and beSOCIAL.
Elsewhere, diversity in fashion was recently explored in Seleen Saleh's Street Culture photo book.
