Japanese technical outerwear brand Mountain Research has joined forces with Reebok for a deconstructed take on the DMX Trail Shadow. With its layered upper and thick midsole, the DMX Trail Shadow already provides a hike-ready style, but Mountain Research has pared it back to its most essential form for a compelling alternate style.
Dressed in a tan-hued "Camel" colorway, Mountain Research's Trail Shadow discards the meshes and synthetics found on in-line makeups in favor of a full nubuck upper. All reflective weldings and embossed details are gone as well, giving the crampon-inspired cage's construction an embellishment-free platform on which to shine. Even the Vector logo has been altered: its normal printed texture has been replaced by perforations.
Stark Mountain Research branding is emblazoned on the outside of the tongue, and a black "Holiday in the Mountain" hit wraps around the heel. Even more motifs are ensconced on the tongue's inner half, namely MR's signature “civil disobedience anarchists mountaineers saunterer + punks” slogan. A thick white DMX Shear midsole and gum outsole complete the look.

“This collaboration is a true marriage of Reebok’s technology and heritage with traditional Japanese elements, realized through a backcountry lens,” said Setsumasa Kobayashi, founder of Mountain Research. “As a historic trail sneaker, Reebok’s DMX Trail Shadow offers a perfect opportunity to launch the partnership.”
The Mountain Research x Reebok DMX Trail Shadow releases on Mountain Research's website April 17, then rolls out to the Reebok webstore April 24. The MSRP is set at $180 USD.
