Taking the reins of a fashion house and leaving your stamp on it is surely a difficult task, but for NIGO, it looks easy. The fusion between the designer’s streetwear vision and his Japanese heritage is charting a new path for the luxury house. Its debut collection left us asking for more, but this Kenzo Cape is one show-stopper you might have missed.

While capes are a rare item in the modern fashion scene, Kenzo isn’t scared of the garment. The late Kenzo Takada took inspiration from his country’s traditional garments since his early years as a fashion designer. Ponchos, kimonos, and tunics became signature points of reference for the label under Takada’s supervision. As such, NIGO crafts this Kenzo Cape as a contemporary version of the brand’s historical pieces.

Composed of polyester, the piece features cozy inner padding and a waterproof exterior. The cape also has adjustable press-stud fastenings to be worn on the back or, as it was presented on the runway, as a skirt. The brand’s logo is displayed on the cape’s surface in a baby pink and red colorway.

Lately, brands are showing us that capes are worth a shot. This past season we’ve seen Burberry taking the reins with its big Down Capes or Arc’teryx dropping the technical Blanket Down Cape. So, it seems the sleeveless silhouette might be edging into the spotlight. Opt for this Kenzo Cape if you want to take the plunge on a colorful note.
