Pablo Escobar’s brother, Roberto Escobar, is suing Apple for $2.6 billion,claiming that his iPhone X almost killed him, TMZ reports. Escobar alleges that someone hacked his smartphone and found his address through FaceTime, despite being reassured by the tech company that the iPhone X model is “the most secure on the market.”
Per the lawsuit, he states that a man named Diego sent him a life-threatening letter after discovering his address. Escobar claims that he was forced to relocate out of concern for his own safety and spent a lot of money on upping security measures, in addition to suffering emotional distress.
Escobar acknowledges that others attempted to take his life before he purchased the iPhone X in 2018; he bought the phone as a means of data protection. He also says he conducted his own investigation into the letter, which is when he found his FaceTime app to be “vulnerable.”
Of course, this could all be part of a marketing ploy — Escobar Inc is selling a limited edition gold-plated iPhone 11 Pro for $499 via the domain www.ripapple.com, which he apparently owns.
In the unlikely event that Apple does give $2.6 billion to the Colombian kingpin’s brother, Escobar says he will share the cash with other iPhone owners, ultimately donating it all.
