This Quarantine Editorial Nails the Vibe of Berlin’s New Normal

Work From Home is a new vertical dedicated to life and culture in the strange and unprecedented situation of self-quarantine that many of us are dealing with right now. From what to watch to how to get a fit off and how to not think about anything, this is our guide to the great indoors. For updates on the spread of Covid-19 and how to keep yourself safe and informed, consult WHO and the CDC. While Berlin (and Germany as a whole) were largely spared the intensity of unpleasantry of the coronavirus pandemic experienced in other parts of the world, things are certainly far from normal. The infamously hedonistic city to which Highsnobiety calls home is going to be doing some serious soul-searching this summer as it drifts through the year at a forcefully reduced pace. Thankfully, such intense reflection often produces some great art. Highsnobiety’s trusty in-house photographer extraordinaire Julien Tell spent quarantine using his incomparable eye assessing what our ‘new normal’ looks li..

ASICS Relauches the GEL-NANDI For the First Time Since 2000

The year 2000 was an interesting one. It was the year that Y2K didn’t happen, Nokia has just released its then highly coveted 3210, boy bands reigned supreme and, no doubt as a result, Von Dutch hats were a thing as was (sadly) embellished denim. It was also the year that ASICS released the GEL-NANDI, a model as conspicuous as the time’s fashion trends, not for its brashness, but for its progressive design and distinguished colorway. Twenty years later, ASICS is re-releasing the GEL-NANDI OG, an ode to the original but re-invigorated for 2020. The GEL-NANDI came to be thanks to ASICS’ designer Shigeyuki Mitsui, who wanted to create a shoe specifically for trail runners that could cope with the demands of mixed terrain. At the time, trail running wasn’t the mainstream sport it is now – even marathon running didn’t shoot to popularity until the back half of that decade. For that reason, the shoe that Mitsui created was designed with performance in mind and it featured a technical upper..

Nike’s Space Hippie Marks a New Era of Sustainable Product

Sustainability has become a buzzword used to sell more product when, in reality, the only way towards a truly sustainable and circular economy is to consume and produce less. Still, brands and companies find themselves in a seemingly endless sustainability arms race. Nike’s Space Hippie collection is the brand’s answer to an increasingly environmentally-conscious consumer — which Highsnobiety has called the immunized shopper in its latest industry report — and while it, too, attempts to solve the problem of overconsumption by producing more product no one really needs, Space Hippie feels distinctly different than sustainable collections that have come before it. Space Hippie hits all the right notes when it comes to singing about sustainability — all four shoes are somewhere north of 50 percent recycled material — but what makes it noteworthy is the way Nike has marketed the collection. Featuring a distinct aesthetic that has (not wrongly) been described on social media as Tom Sachs-..

Takashi Murakami Prints Expected to Raise Over $1 Million for Black Lives Matter

Visit the original post to see all 6 images from this gallery. Takashi Murakami will release six limited-edition screen prints to raise funds for the Black Lives Matter movement. The exact pricing and launch details are to be announced in the following weeks, however, the total raised is expected to exceed $1 million in charitable contributions. Eschewing his signature palette of vibrant pop colors, Murakami instead depicts his classic flower and skull characters in a monochrome style, with each print signed and spray-painted by the artist himself. The collection will be available in July via the NTWRK app with 100 percent of proceeds going to organizations including Black Lives Matter, Equal Justice Initiative, and Color of Change. In a statement regarding the global protests against racial injustices, Murakami said, “I have said that a role of an artist is to discern the present and express it for the future audience. But if my art can effect any change here and now, I want to con..

Judd Apatow on Why Pete Davidson Is Very Brave & Insanely Funny

On September 11, 2001, Pete Davidson’s father passed away. He was a firefighter and first responder working during the attacks on New York City. His badge number, 8418, is inked on Davidson’s left arm. This information you can get from having even the most passive interest in Davidson’s life — by taking a cursory scroll through his Wikipedia page, watching his Netflix stand-up special, Alive From New York, or reading any interview with him that aims to do more than simply spit gossip about his former relationships. What you cannot get from a shallow dip in Davidson’s career, however, is a portrait of how the grief of losing his father at just seven years old has shaped his entire life. How he deals with that grief through comedy. How he uses it to flame ambition; through working extremely hard and discovering ways to improve, learn, and grow. And also by recognizing that, had his inner drive not been so highly vocational, life could have turned out quite different. That realization i..

Nintendo Now Admits 300,000 Accounts Have Been Hacked

After continued investigation, Nintendo reports that 300,000 accounts have been hacked in recent months. The company revealed the new figure following an announcement in April stating that 160,000 accounts had been compromised. The hacks have resulted in exposed user information including the account owner’s name, email address, date of birth, and country of residence. Nintendo has reset the passwords for all of the compromised accounts and informed each user. The breach was first made known in March when customers became aware of unauthorized purchases. After instructing users to enable two-factor authentication, Nintendo finally admitted thousands of accounts had been illegally accessed, although the company remains unsure as to how this was possible. Nintendo suggested that some may have had weak passwords, while others likely reused passwords from other services, making it easy for hackers to access. The company insists that the 300,000 compromised accounts make up less than ..

‘Da 5 Bloods’ Reviews Say Spike Lee’s New Movie Relates to Present-Day America

The first reviews for Spike Lee‘s new Netflix movie, Da 5 Bloods, are in, and critics are largely impressed with the picture. Centering around four Black veterans who return to Vietnam in search of the remains of their fallen squad leader and the gold he helped them hide, the film looks to the past while simultaneously addressing the current state of the US, as Black Lives Matter protests continue to take place following the murder of George Floyd and countless other Black individuals at the hands of law enforcement. Da 5 Bloods stars Delroy Lindo, Clarke Peters, Norm Lewis, Isiah Whitlock, Jr., Chadwick Boseman, and Jonathan Majors, and is due out on Netflix this Friday, June 12. You can watch the trailer for Spike Lee’s new movie below, then read the first reviews underneath. “Spike Lee has shown up with an insurgent filmic uproar to match the uproar in the world. Lil Peep’s New “crybaby” Video Includes Footage of His Last Performance

Lil Peep‘s estate has released a new music video for the late rapper’s 2016 track, “crybaby,” taken from the mixtape of the same name. The clip opens up as Peep speaks about the tattoo on his forehead saying, “The ‘crybaby’ [tattoo] on my forehead — it was kind of a push to almost force myself to be successful with the music that I was doing. It just keeps me really grateful, for everything.” From there, we see concert footage from an April 2017 show in London as well as a stop just days later in Chicago, in addition to his last-ever live performance in Texas in November of 2017, days before he died. The “crybaby” video arrives as Lil Peep’s estate shared three previously unreleased music videos in March, along with the re-release of one of his first projects, Vertigo. You can watch the new clip below.

Why Short-Sighted, Surface-Level Activism Posts Don’t Help the Message

On Black Out Tuesday, also known as June 2nd, the Internet was working on a racial activism campaign, absorbing the bloodstream of media resources that have flooded our timelines over the past few days. Following the horrific death of George Floyd at the hands of police brutality, we witnessed a globally scheduled “Blackout Day” in memory of Floyd’s passing. The music industry proposed a day of disruption, recharge and reflection, urging society to refrain from disseminating information and opt to log-off. Hashtags dominated the net, and artists such as Lizzo urged followers to not use the Black Lives Matters hashtag to avoid crossing the line between causes. As well-intentioned as people are to encourage change and advocate for equality, a “call to silence” symbolizes a deprivation of speech and shrinks conversations—at a time when these conversations are needed now more than ever. Instead of posting informative and educational content, celebrities, influencers and those who wish to..
